Game description
American Roulette is one of the most iconic casino games. Its most recognisable feature is the roulette wheel with 37 pockets, numbered from 0 to 36. The number 0 is green, while the remaining numbers are red or black and are arranged in a non-sequential order. The aim of the game is to predict which pocket the ball will land in.
American Roulette is managed by a dealer/croupier, who accepts bets and pays out winnings. American Roulette is very similar to French Roulette, but there are two key differences. The American Roulette table is noticeably smaller and the number of players is limited. Each player also receives chips in a different colour, making it easy to keep track of individual bets. Due to the different way the game is managed, American Roulette is played at a much faster pace than French Roulette.
How to play
Each player receives chips in their own colour, without a value printed on them. The player determines the value of the chips when purchasing them, in accordance with the minimum and maximum bets displayed at the table. Casino management may change the minimum bet during play.
Since each player has their own colour of chips, players may place their chips on top of chips already placed by other players.
The game begins when the dealer announces: “Place your bets, please!” Players place their bets by putting one or more chips on a selected number or one of the available combinations.
The dealer spins the roulette wheel in one direction and launches the ball in the opposite direction. At a certain point, the dealer announces: “No more bets!”
Once the ball comes to rest in one of the 37 pockets and the winning number has been announced, the dealer removes the chips from losing bets and begins paying out the winning bets. Until all winnings have been paid, players may not touch or add chips to winning positions.
Coloured chips may not be transferred from one table to another and may not be taken away from the casino. At the end of play, they must be exchanged for value chips. Coloured chips that were not exchanged on the day they were purchased may be exchanged the following day, but only at a value equal to the table minimum.
Bet combinations and payout rules
The position where you place your chip determines the type of bet you are making. Winnings are paid according to the rules of American Roulette.
Outside bets
A: Red – the winning number will be red (pays 1:1)
B: Black – the winning number will be black (pays 1:1)
C: Even – the winning number will be even (pays 1:1)
D: Odd – the winning number will be odd (pays 1:1)
E: 1 to 18 – the winning number will be between 1 and 18 (pays 1:1)
F: 19 to 36 – the winning number will be between 19 and 36 (pays 1:1)
G: 1st 12 – the winning number will be among the first 12 numbers (pays 2:1)
H: 2nd 12 – the winning number will be among the second 12 numbers (pays 2:1)
I: 3rd 12 – the winning number will be among the third 12 numbers (pays 2:1)
J: Column – the winning number will be in one of the vertical columns of twelve numbers (pays 2:1)
Other bets
K: Six Line – the winning number will be one of 6 numbers (pays 5:1)
L: Corner – the winning number will be one of 4 numbers (pays 8:1)
M: Street – the winning number will be one of 3 numbers (pays 11:1)
N: Split – the winning number will be one of 2 numbers (pays 17:1)
O: Straight Up – the winning number will be the selected number (pays 35:1)
If 0 is the winning number, all bets on dozens and columns, as well as the following outside bets, lose: red and black, even and odd, low numbers (1 to 18) and high numbers (19 to 36).
Announced bets
In addition to the standard combinations, you can play various announced bets. Winnings are paid according to the payout rules stated above.
Voisins du Zéro (Big Series) – Played with nine chips distributed as follows:
- two chips on the 0-2-3 street and two chips on the 25-29 corner;
- one chip on each of the following splits: 4-7, 12-15, 18-21, 19-22 and 32-35.
Orphelins – Played with five chips distributed as follows:
- one chip on 1;
- one chip on each of the following splits: 6-9, 14-17, 17-20 and 31-34.
Tiers du Cylindre (Small Series 5/8) – Played with six chips distributed as follows:
- one chip on each of the following splits: 5-8, 10-11, 13-16, 23-24, 27-30 and 33-36.
