Blackjack is a card game played at a gaming table. The aim is to achieve a higher total than the dealer without exceeding 21.
Game description
Blackjack is a card game played at a gaming table. The game is played with 6 decks of 52 cards. The aim is to score 21 points or get as close to 21 as possible. If a player takes additional cards and the total exceeds 21, the player loses the bet, which the dealer collects together with the cards.
An Ace counts as either 1 or 11 points, depending on the player’s choice. Face cards are worth 10 points, while all other cards are worth their face value.
Rules of the game
If the dealer’s first card is an Ace, the player has the option of taking insurance against the dealer having Blackjack. The player does this by placing an amount of up to half the original bet on the “insurance line”.
If the dealer has Blackjack, the insurance bet pays 2:1, while the original bet is lost. If the dealer does not have Blackjack, the insurance bet is lost.
If the dealer’s first card is an Ace, a ten or a face card and the player has Blackjack, the player may request an immediate payout. In this case, the winnings are paid at 1:1.
Splitting pairs
If a player receives two cards of the same value, they have the option of splitting them. To do so, the player places an additional bet equal to the original bet.
At the player’s request, the dealer then deals additional cards, completing the hand for the left split card first and then moving on to the right. Each player may split up to three times, creating a maximum of four hands.
If two Aces are split and a 10-point card is dealt to an Ace, this is not considered Blackjack but a total of 21 points. Likewise, if an Ace is dealt to two split cards whose combined value is 10 points, the result is a total of 21 points, not Blackjack.
Doubling down
A player may double the original bet after receiving the first two cards, regardless of their total. In this case, the player receives only one additional card. Doubling down is also permitted after splitting.
The game is managed by the dealer. Each player receives two face-up cards, while the dealer receives one face-up card. If a player receives an Ace and any card worth 10 points, they have Blackjack. Blackjack pays 3:2, unless the dealer has the same combination (Blackjack).
If the player has Blackjack and the dealer reaches 21 with more than two cards, the player wins.
A player must take another card when the first two cards total 11 or less. If the first two cards total 12 or more, the player may stand.
